I took a course in paper marbling from Jonna Cohen of Cohen Boekwerk. First, we got a good explanation about the preparation, materials and techniques. The rest of the afternoon all we did was marble! Here, you can see some of the resulting papers!
I went on holiday to Madrid and visited a few paper stores there. I bought the marbled paper (5 real ones) at Amillo, a kind of wholesaler where you can’t browse but are assisted from behind a counter. At Palmapapel, a charming small shop by an atelier, I bought the right red, blue and green Italian papers. Sofia Paper Store, a small shop-in-shop in a mall, sold the books made in Palmapapels atelier, but also stocked some new papers: the other 6 red, blue, and green papers. Paper from India, screen-printed in England – I was told. I also bought two handmade paste-papers. The rest of the papers (birds, flowers, swirls, dots and 1 marble reproduction) I bought at Depapel, a modern spacious shop.
A couple of months I decided to rearrange things in my atelier in order to store them more efficiently. I built shelfs on two walls, and created a space for product photography. I bought my paper drawers second hand a year and a half ago now, I think, but I hadn’t shown them here yet. Also new is my drying rack for marbled papers.
